2022 - 2027 Solid Waste & Recycling Contract

The City of Maple Plain has renewed our contract with the Delano team at Republic Services, formerly Randy’s Sanitation for 2022 - 2027. The City evaluated prices from two additional trash and recycling vendors and found the Randy’s/Republic team to be in the best position to provide the best value to our residents.

City Staff and Representatives from Republic Services worked hard to create the best possible contract for the citizens of Maple Plain.  The new contract is effective October 1, 2022.

Highlights from the new contract include:

• Free yard waste carts - historically receiving a yard waste cart has required an additional monthly fee, that fee has been removed (see more below)
• Continued access to the organics/food waste collection program
• Predictable, fixed annual price increases that will not increase with rising inflation

Yard Waste Carts
While yard waste pick-up has been included in the solid waste contract -- bags & bundles -- having a yard waste cart was an additional fee. With the new contract we have eliminated the yard waste cart fee and all residents may receive a yard waste cart at no charge. Increased use of yard waste carts provides a safer work environment for the route drivers and increased convenience for residents. While residents may receive a yard waste cart at no additional cost, Republic Services will still pick up paper bags containing yard waste and leaves.

What should you do if you have a service complaint?
Should you have a customer service issue or concern please call the same number that you used for Randy’s in the past -- 763-972-3335. Many of the Randy’s customer service team members are answering calls, ready to resolve any concern you may have. 

While we encourage you to work directly with Republic to resolve issues in a timely manner, please feel free to share concerns with city staff so that we may track satisfaction levels and assist when necessary. What to expect your new bill to look like?
It is important to note that the contract contains monthly prices that are billed quarterly so the contracted price will show as 3 times that amount on your quarterly bill. . 

You may also notice a yard waste line item on your invoice. This does not mean you are being charged anything additional for yard waste service. Yard waste collection is included in the trash price, but $2.00 per month is removed from the trash price and listed as the yard waste price on the invoice. Pulling out this cost reduces your bill as yard waste services are not subject to state or county taxes.  Unfortunately, the limitations of the corporate accounting system don't allow them to change the description of that line item.  We had a similar line on the old Randy's invoice but it was called simply "untaxed portion"; this is the same thing.

PRICES FOR GARBAGE, RECYCLING, YARD WASTE COLLECTION (excerpts from the 2022-2027 contract)

Service Fee per Residential Unit for Waste Services. The fees to be charged for Residential solid waste collection, transportation and disposal services performed by Contractor under this Agreement shall be billed by Contractor directly to the individual Residential Units on the compulsory disposal list and are based on the collection of one (1) Acceptable Waste Cart per Residential Unit, placed at the curbside, at the frequency identified in this Agreement. All invoices shall be paid within thirty (30) days from the date of receipt of invoice the individual Residential Units. All unpaid invoices shall carry interest at a rate of 1.5% per month or, if lower, the maximum rate permitted by Applicable Law, until the balance is paid in full.

The monthly rates for weekly collection services are shown below. All rates increase by 4.5% on October 1 of each year. Yard waste is a service included in the price of trash.  For billing purposes, $2 per month of the trash price will be allocated to yard waste service.

*Every other week trash collection for 65 and 95 gallon service are available to existing participants only, no new participants will be accepted.
