- The Maple Plain Fire Department is hosting their annual Fire Department Open House on Saturday, October 8th from 11 AM - 4 PM. Come meet our local firefighters, enjoy fun games, take a ride on the Maple Plain fire truck, and enjoy tasty food! This event will be taking place at the Maple Plain Fire Department (1645 Pioneer Ave).

- Movies in the Park is taking place on Friday, October 14th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM at Rainbow Park. The movie being shown is Sonic the Hedgehog 2. Bring your blankets, chairs, and anything else you'll need for this fun outdoor movie!
- In the event of rain, this event will be held in the Maple Plain City Council chambers located at 5050 Independence Street, Maple Plain.

- The City of Maple Plain received a donation from the Rotary Club of Orono of $9,000 to be used for a pair of lighting projects in the Veterans Memorial Park picnic shelter. The Rotary Club of Orono raised these funds through their annual Party in the Park event, which took place this year on June 4th. Since 2018, proceeds from the annual Party in the Park, in addition to a generous District Rotary Grant, has enabled the club to donate nearly $43,000 to improvements at Veterans Memorial Park. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Orono for their donation and for making our community a better place! You can read more about the Rotary donation here.

- Nominations may now be submitted for the 2022 Good Neighbor Award! Nomination forms can be found here and will be accepted until Friday, October 14.

- Early in-person voting began Friday, September 23 and can be done at Maple Plain City Hall, 5050 Independence Street, Maple Plain for the November 8, 2022 General Election. Early voting hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.

- A new ordinance was approved by the City Council at the Monday, September 26 Business Meeting that will regulate the sale of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) products. This ordinance requires that THC only be sold after obtaining a THC License. You can view the entire ordinance here.

- The City Council approved the preliminary 2023 levy at the September 26, 2022 Business Meeting. The preliminary levy establishes a ceiling that the levy may not be set above in 2023, although it may be lowered before the final amount is set. More information on the levy can be viewed here.

- Thank you to everyone that attended Art in the Park on Thursday, September 22! We loved seeing all of your fantastic art creations and getting to witness the community coming together for a night of fun. Thank you as well to Orono Community Education staff and all of our local artists that helped make this event possible.

- The next Cookies with Council will be on Monday, November 21 from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM in the City Council chambers located in the Orono Discovery Center. Come chat with council member Mike DeLuca about all things Maple Plain. Cookies and refreshments will be served.

- Maple Plain is introducing a new grassroots program intended to provide community members with the opportunity to directly improve recreational and public spaces in the town. - The City of Maple Plain was recently awarded the Hennepin County Active Living Grant. This grant will provide the City of Maple Plain with $5,000 that will be used to purchase new benches to be installed along the walking trails of Baker Park Road, Gateway Boulevard, Howard Avenue, and Oak Street. These benches will provide resting stops for those using these paths and should especially benefit our local senior population.

- The City of Maple Plain is also the recipient of the Minnesota DNR Preparing for Emerald Ash Borer Grant. This grant will provide $25,000 that the City of Maple Plain is to use for the betterment of our public lands tree systems. More information about the EAB grant can be found on our website here.

- Bituminous Roadways has continued working on the watermain repair project along Highway 12 between Spring and Maple this week. The project will continue for at least the next week while they finalize the new connections. Highway 12 will remain open throughout the duration of the project with lane shifting occurring around the week. More information can be found by following the link here.

- The City Council discussed snow plow contracting, the Hennepin County Facilities Grant, and City Hall space needs at the most recent City Council Workshop. More information can be obtained in the Council packet from the September 26, 2022 workshop.
- The City Council discussed a Concept Plan for a new apartment building on Budd Ave., a THC licensing ordinance, and the preliminary 2023 levy at the most recent City Council Business Meeting. More information can be obtained in the Council packet from the September 26, 2022 Business Meeting.
