  • West Hennepin Public Safety's Citizens Policy Academy officially kicked off on Thursday, April 6th. We hope that this year's Class is having a great time as they partake in this excellent learning experience. Good luck and have fun to the Citizens Police Academy - Class of 2023!
  • Hydrant flushing and street sweeping are expected to take place during the week on April 24th. Flushing may lead to discolored water for a period of time. This water is safe to drink, but residents may want to reschedule laundry and other water-related work that could be impacted by the discoloration.   • Please keep an eye out for ponding areas this spring as the snow melts and we experience drenching rains. The City is investigating excess sources of rain water entering the sanitary sewer system. The main sign of ponding is an a large area of pooling water that then recedes, but not into a storm sewer inlet. If you notice any ponding areas, please contact the City at 763-479-0515.
  • Republic Services recently announced the dates for 2023 Yard Waste Collection. Yard waste collection will begin the week of Monday, April 17th and end Monday, November 20th. More information on garbage and recycling collection can be found here.
  • Registration for Step to It 2023 opened on April 1, 2023. Step to It is a family-friendly activity challenge that motivates people to become more physically active from May 1 - May 28. The most active communities and individuals are recognized and awarded with prizes. To register for Step to It, or to find more information, visit their dedicated website here.
  • The City received City Administrator Clarissa Hadler's letter of resignation this week and her last day serving in this role will be May 5th, 2023. The City is grateful for all of the work that Clarissa has done in our City during her time here. You can read the City's full statement on Administrator Hadler's resignation here.
  • Join Councilmember Connie Francis at the next Cookies with Council event on Tuesday, June 13th from 4PM - 6PM! Cookies with Council are a perfect time to speak to your representatives one-on-one, so bring your most pressing questions and best ideas to share! This event will be held in the Maple Plain City Council Chambers (5050 Independence Street). Cookies and refreshments will be served!
  • Hennepin County is prepping for an upcoming mill & overlay project on Halgren Rd. south of Highway 12. The project is scheduled to take place later this summer. More information to come!
  • Spring load restrictions have been implemented in metro seasonal load-limit zones (including the City of Maple Plain) as of March 10, 2023.   • A Maple Plain tree planting volunteer event will be taking place on Thursday, May 18th and Saturday, May 20th. This project will result in 18 new trees for our community, located at Veterans Memorial Park and Rainbow Park.   • The City of Maple Plain recently completed a 2023 - 2027 Utility Rate Study with the help of Abdo - Certified Public Accountants. The findings of this study will be used to help the City better establish its financial goals, including the capital improvement plan and rate changes.
  • Rate changes will go into effect for first quarter billing and are as follows:
    • 10% increase to fixed and volume prices of water,
    • 5% increase to fixed and volume prices of sewer,
    • 5% increase to stormwater fees.

  • The date for Maple Plain's City-Wide Clean-Up Day has been set for this Spring! This event will be held on Saturday, May 20th from 8 AM - Noon. Bring your items for clean-up to the Maple Plain Public Works building, located at 1645 Pioneer Ave (behind the Maple Plain Fire Department), to participate in this program. Staff will be on hand to assist with heavier items where needed. More information on the 2023 Spring Clean-Up Day can be found on the City's dedicated news post, here.
  • Party in the Park is officially returning to Veterans Memorial Park in 2023 thanks to the Orono Rotary! This free event, held on Saturday, June 3rd from 5 PM - 11 PM, will feature live music, food trucks, and other fun activities. More information can be expected soon!
  • The City of Maple Plain is moving forward with a 2023 Sealcoating Project to improve multiple streets in our community. More details, including a map of the streets to be improved through this project, can be viewed here.
  • The City Council met with Interim City Administrator applicants during the April 5, 2023 City Council Workshop.
  • The City Council discussed the Interim City Administrator applicants and interviewed City Administrator search firm organizations during the April 10, 2023 City Council Workshop.
